Tonkatsu, a crispy and delicious dish
Tonkatsu 豚カツ is a Japanese dish consisting mainly of a thick slice of breaded pork, fried with breadcrumbs from panko. These breadcrumbs are thicker and crispier than French breadcrumbs while also being airier in the mouth. This meat is accompanied by white cabbage cut into thin strips and salad or tomato. The whole thing is served on a plate and topped with the indispensable tonkatsu sauce. There will also be a bowl of miso soup, a bowl of Japanese rice and brown mustard karashi. Although this dish is mostly made of meat, it is eaten with Japanese chopsticks. Tonkatsu was inspired by western cuisine, and was introduced in the 1930s.
