Edamame recipe
The edamame "枝豆" are soybeans that are very popular in Japan. They are traditionally eaten as an appetizer with a cold beer. It is a very common aperitif. You will find them on the menu of all Japanese restaurants. Here is a little taste of Japan at home with the recipe of edamame.
Ingredients
- 1.102 lb of frozen edamame (500g)
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1/2 L boiling water
Ustensiles
- A pan
- A sieve
- A salad bowl
Instructions
- Bring hot water to a boil and place the frozen edamame in the pan. To avoid splashing your hands, use Japanese chopsticks. They are longer and specially designed for cooking.
- Wait 5 minutes then wring them out in the colander.
- Very quickly, rinse them under cold water for a few moments to stop the cooking of the edamame. You can even plunge them into a bowl of ice water.
- Add salt and it's ready!
Our advice to enjoy your edamame
The edamame are not eaten whole, you have to press the pods to get out the beans. They should be crunchy when tasted, a treat!
Don’t forget to put another bowl for the empty pods.
