The Kit Kat in Japan, do you want it? Here they are!
Why are there so many different tastes in Japan? Simply because Japanese people don’t consider Kit Kat as a snack but as a pastry to be offered when they travel. Japanese people are the first tourists of their own country and it is customary to buy a local product of each visited region as a souvenir, Kit Kat is part of it and Nestlé has understood it well. You will even find a map of Japan indicating the different Kit Kat available in each region.
The most unlikely tastes
You’ll be surprised when you travel to Japan to find Kit Kat with such different and sometimes unlikely tastes. As for the ink stamps hidden all over Japan, it has become a game to find them in Japanese shops or conbini (local supermarket). The most classic of them is probably the Matcha Green Tea Kit Kat. You can find it almost everywhere. Among the most unlikely flavors we will mention the Kit Kat with wine, wasabi cheesecake, watermelon, grape… and lately a Kit Kat with pudding or cheescake that can be baked! The latter is a big hit in Japan!
And what about the taste? We are always surprised to taste these Kit Kat which are very good for the most part although sometimes very strange! The packagings are really nice, it’s to taste or to offer !
Here is an overview of the taste of Kit Kat in Japan. It is interesting to remind that some of them are sold periodically like cherry blossoms ones for example, others are sold only in particular regions. If you want to taste them, you will have no choice but to travel around Japan.

Kit Kat, success for students in exams
In Japan, behind each Kit Kat you will find a space to write a message. In Japanese, kit kat is said きっと勝つ,“Kitto Katsu“, which also means“you will certainly succeed“. Kit kat decided to use this double meaning in their Japanese advertisements so that it can be equated with the success of students’ exams. So, behind each Kit Kat this message is dedicated to the students in order to encourage them during the period of exams, competitions, etc…
Kit Kat Chocolatory, the official store in Japan
In 2014, Nestlé opened a chocolate shop dedicated to these famous Kit Kat. This last one has a great success, it is located in Tokyo in Ikkebukuro. You will not find all the flavors mentioned above but special and limited editions in beautiful packaging intended to offer. It is a luxury store. Source photos
